While the impact of COVID-19 is obviously mainly a human one, the effect on global businesses is yet to be fully realised, and it’s already delivered a defining moment for the economy and digital transformation. The forced acceleration of previously slower-moving digital trends has been triggered by an overnight shift to remote working for businesses across all sectors.
With working from home and total distribution of the workforce already a critical operational requirement for Neueda’s business model, our team has adapted well. However, for other businesses, the transition has required a complete shift in attitude and approach, which many were unprepared for.

Agile methodology, which sees projects broken up into stages with improvements made at every step, has long become the new normal due to its emphasis on continuous communication that complements remote working practices.
Agile working is essential for Neueda and has ensured we’re positioned to continue delivering business-critical solutions for our customers. While our digital native clients already had agile methodologies and remote working practices in place, others have faced a more challenging shift.
Prior to the UK lockdown, a Neueda client had a large team working on-site, with no plans to create a remote workforce. However, the lockdown meant they had to embrace a new way of operating, quickly. We partnered with the team to implement a complete remote working transition for over 100 employees, maintaining the current scaled agile delivery approach, in just a week. Neueda has since helped several clients accelerate their digital transformation plans to ensure they stay in business, and this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Last month, IDC conducted a survey in China that canvassed the opinions of 32 CXOs in ten industries regarding the impact of COVID-19 on corporate business. The respondents stated that the heightened awareness of the value of digital transformation would have one of the most positive effects on enterprises.
Indeed, the value of digital is becoming evident to companies across the world — companies who before now didn’t think digital transformation applied to them. The pandemic has been a wake-up call for those organisations that previously placed too much focus on daily operational needs at the expense of investing in digital solutions and long-term business resilience.

Companies demanding increased and rapid digitisation to stay in business today will have a significant impact on how we do business tomorrow. The likelihood is that we’ll see increasingly distributed workforces, which, in turn, brings cultural implications that shouldn’t be underestimated and we’ll have to see how that pans out.
Crucially, the reliance on complex real estate will decrease with greater emphasis placed on shifting technology capacity and investment to digital platforms so businesses can mitigate the impact of the outbreak and keep their companies running smoothly now and into the future.
